About Dr Kurt

Our Story

At First Hill Nutrition for Life, we specialize in personalized meal planning and lifestyle adjustments. Our evidence-based practices ensure unique plans that cater to your dietary preferences, along with ongoing support for transformative results.

My work is to help clients discover whole healing foods; foods that we evolved on, foods that kept us healthy for thousands of years. In this country of industrialized farming and convenience foods, the population is sicker than ever, but it doesn’t have to be that way. We are not supposed to begin a downward spiral of decrepitude by 35, yet many Americans experience just that. We have reached epidemic numbers of people with type 2 diabetes, obesity, depression, arthritis, irritable bowel, high blood pressure, heart disease, and gastric reflux. We have come to expect that we will fall apart and spend all our time trying to regain the ground that we lost until finally we have slipped so far down that we cannot recover and instead become disabled.

The problem goes beyond just food; we also are experiencing massive assault from toxicants and stress. Just as with the foods and beverages we consume, there is much we can do about toxic exposure and stress. Satisfaction, connectedness, and fitness also have huge effects on health; therefore no health supportive plan would be complete without addressing these factors; the mind-body connection.
 

Hello- My name is Gretchen Kurtenacker. I am a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner certified by the Nutritional Therapy Association and a Medical Laboratory Scientist certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. I am currently studying animal naturopathy as the same things that are making us sick, are harming them too! 


I hold a Doctor of Science in Holistic Nutrition from The American College of Healthcare Sciences, a Master of Science in Health & Nutrition Education from Hawthorn University, a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science from the University of Cincinnati, and an Associates of Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Technology from Clark State Community College. 


My nutritional counseling practice is in Show Low, AZ where I share with clients the importance of nutrient-dense traditional foods, as well as how to plan, shop, and create healthy meals that are restorative and balancing. I stress the importance of an integrated whole life practice addressing not just nutrition, but also hydration, movement, sleep, lifestyle, and reflection. I work within the client’s framework and together we create goals and plan steps to achieve the clients’ desired outcome. I also advise on healthy home environments for dogs and cats so our fur kids can enjoy a long life by our sides : )
